Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Betaine + taurine is a combination of two naturally occurring compounds, each with distinct biological roles. Betaine acts primarily as a methyl group donor involved in homocysteine metabolism and cellular osmoregulation, while taurine is an amino sulfonic acid important for cardiovascular function, neurological health, and antioxidative defense. The combination has been studied for potential synergistic effects in supporting liver function and reducing oxidative stress. Preclinical studies suggest that combined administration of betaine and taurine may help maintain glutathione homeostasis and protect against ethanol-induced liver injury by modulating the expression of enzymes involved in glutathione synthesis[1][2]. Additionally, this combination has shown promise in lowering plasma levels of proinflammatory markers associated with metabolic disorders[2]. Both ingredients are also individually investigated for their roles in cardiovascular health, neurological protection, and metabolic regulation.
