BetaMarc

**BetaMarc** is an investigational fixed-dose oral combination of formoterol fumarate and roxithromycin developed by Anaborex for cancer anorexia-cachexia syndrome. Formoterol is a beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist proposed to reduce cachexia-associated skeletal-muscle proteolysis through the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway, while roxithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic with anti-inflammatory effects on cytokine production and secretion by T cells and macrophages. The combination showed enhanced muscle-sparing activity relative to either component in a preclinical cancer-cachexia model and entered a randomized Phase 2 study in advanced non-small cell lung cancer; that trial was terminated.
