Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a **topical combination drug** containing three active ingredients: - **Betamethasone dipropionate**: a potent synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid that inhibits the synthesis of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins, leukotrienes, and cytokines, reducing redness, swelling, itching, and local immune response. - **Clotrimazole**: an antifungal agent that inhibits fungal growth by damaging the permeability barrier in the fungal cytoplasmic membrane, primarily by inhibiting ergosterol synthesis. - **Gentamicin**: an aminoglycoside antibiotic that irreversibly binds bacterial 30S ribosomal subunits, inhibiting protein synthesis and thus killing or inhibiting the growth of susceptible bacteria. The combination is used for the **treatment of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses complicated by secondary bacterial and/or fungal infections**, including inflamed cutaneous candidiasis, tinea, mixed infections, impetiginized eczema, and secondary infected dermatitis[1][2][3][4][6]. **Mechanism of action**: simultaneous anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antibacterial activity at the site of application to treat mixed skin infections.
