Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vista Metasone (brand name Vistamethasone) is a topical corticosteroid formulation containing betamethasone sodium phosphate (0.1% w/v). It is administered as ear, eye, or nasal drops to treat non-infected inflammatory conditions, such as otitis externa, allergic rhinitis, and ocular inflammation. As a potent glucocorticoid receptor agonist, betamethasone reduces inflammation, redness, and swelling by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators and suppressing immune cell migration. Originally developed and marketed by Martindale Pharmaceuticals (an Ethypharm Group company), Vista Metasone has been evaluated in clinical trials, including a comparative study sponsored by the North Bristol NHS Trust, which investigated the efficacy of plain steroid drops versus combination steroid-antibiotic drops (Vista Metasone-N) for the treatment of otitis externa.
