betamethasone sodium phosphate + neomycin sulfate

Vista Metasone-N (also known as Vistamethasone N) is a topical combination ear, eye, and nose drop formulation containing the synthetic corticosteroid betamethasone sodium phosphate (0.1% w/v) and the aminoglycoside antibiotic neomycin sulfate (0.5% w/v). Developed by Martindale Pharmaceuticals (now Ethypharm), it is primarily indicated for the treatment of inflammatory and potentially infected conditions of the external ear canal (otitis externa), as well as similar conditions of the eye and nose. The corticosteroid component, betamethasone, acts as an anti-inflammatory agent by binding to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors, while neomycin provides broad-spectrum antibacterial activity by binding to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit to inhibit protein synthesis. Vista Metasone-N was evaluated in a comparative clinical trial sponsored by the North Bristol NHS Trust (UK) to determine the therapeutic benefit of adding a topical antibiotic to standard aural toilet and steroid therapy in adult patients with otitis externa.
