Drug intelligence / Profile preview
IBSA BMV (brand name: Betesil) is a ready-to-use, self-adhering medicated plaster containing 0.1% betamethasone 17-valerate (BMV), developed by IBSA Institut Biochimique. It is designed for the localized, occlusive treatment of steroid-responsive inflammatory dermatoses, such as chronic plaque psoriasis, eczema, lichen planus, and granuloma annulare. By delivering betamethasone valerate—a medium-to-high potency synthetic corticosteroid—transdermally, the plaster acts as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist to exert anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive, antiproliferative, and vasoconstrictive effects. The occlusive nature of the plaster also enhances skin hydration and drug penetration while protecting the affected area from mechanical trauma.
