Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Betafusin is a topical fixed-dose combination cream containing the antibiotic fusidic acid (2%) and the potent corticosteroid betamethasone valerate (0.1%). Fusidic acid exerts its antibacterial effect by binding to bacterial elongation factor G (EF-G), thereby inhibiting protein synthesis, and is highly active against Gram-positive pathogens such as *Staphylococcus aureus*. Betamethasone valerate is a synthetic corticosteroid that reduces localized inflammation, redness, and pruritus by binding to glucocorticoid receptors and modulating gene transcription. This dual-action formulation is primarily indicated for the short-term treatment of inflammatory dermatoses, such as atopic dermatitis (eczema) and contact dermatitis, when complicated by secondary bacterial infections. Originally developed as Fucibet/Fucicort by LEO Pharma, Betafusin is marketed as a generic/branded combination product in various international markets, including Greece, where it is distributed by Pharmex and contract-manufactured by Cana Laboratories.
