Betiatide is a small molecule oligopeptide used as the active pharmaceutical ingredient in kits for the preparation of technetium Tc 99m mertiatide, a radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent. After reconstitution with sodium pertechnetate Tc 99m, it forms technetium Tc 99m mertiatide, which is administered intravenously to assess renal function. The mechanism of action involves rapid uptake by renal tubular cells and excretion via urine through both tubular secretion and glomerular filtration. This allows for gamma camera imaging to evaluate kidney perfusion, function, split function, angiograms, and renogram curves for both whole kidney and cortex. Betiatide is primarily indicated for diagnosing congenital or acquired renal abnormalities, urinary tract obstruction or calculi (stones), and assessing renal failure[2][5][6][7][8].
