Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BETIC is a brand of betahistine dihydrochloride, a generic pharmaceutical product distributed by Learmont Pharmaceuticals. Betahistine is a histamine analogue primarily indicated for the symptomatic treatment of Ménière's disease and vestibular vertigo. Its pharmacological action is characterized by potent antagonism at histamine H3 receptors and weak agonism at histamine H1 receptors. By antagonizing H3 receptors, BETIC increases the release of neurotransmitters such as histamine and acetylcholine in the inner ear, which improves microcirculation in the stria vascularis. Additionally, its H1 agonism promotes local vasodilation. These combined effects help to reduce endolymphatic pressure and modulate the activity of vestibular nuclei, thereby alleviating symptoms such as dizziness, tinnitus, and hearing loss.
