betrixaban

Betrixaban is an oral anticoagulant and a direct factor Xa inhibitor. It works by competitively and reversibly inhibiting both free and prothrombinase-bound coagulation factor X, thereby preventing thrombin generation without directly affecting platelet aggregation. Betrixaban is primarily used for the prophylaxis of venous thromboembolism (VTE), including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), in adult patients hospitalized for acute medical illnesses who are at risk due to restricted mobility or other factors. It has a long half-life among direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs), low renal clearance, minimal CYP-mediated metabolism, and predictable pharmacokinetics that make it suitable for use in acutely ill populations with comorbidities or renal impairment.
