Betula pendula pollen allergoid, mannan-conjugated, polymerised (also known as MM09) is an innovative allergen immunotherapy (AIT) candidate developed by Inmunotek for the treatment of birch pollen-induced allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis. The product utilizes a proprietary technology where birch pollen allergens are first polymerised with glutaraldehyde to form allergoids, which significantly reduces their IgE-binding capacity and improves safety by minimizing the risk of systemic allergic reactions. These allergoids are then conjugated to mannan, a polysaccharide derived from *Saccharomyces cerevisiae*. This conjugation allows for targeted delivery to dendritic cells via C-type lectin receptors, specifically the mannose receptor (CD206). This targeting facilitates efficient allergen processing and promotes the induction of T-regulatory cells and the production of protective IgG4 antibodies. This approach is designed to achieve clinical efficacy with a shorter updosing phase and fewer injections compared to conventional AIT.
