Overview
Betulaceae allergenic extract is a biological allergen extract developed by LOFARMA S.p.A. for use in allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT). Derived from the pollen of plants in the Betulaceae family, particularly *Betula verrucosa* (birch), the extract is intended for the treatment of respiratory allergies, including allergic rhinitis and allergic asthma, in sensitized patients. It functions as a therapeutic vaccine that modulates the IgE-mediated immune response to birch pollen allergens, with the major target being the Bet v 1 allergen. The extract has been evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials for biological standardization to determine its potency in histamine equivalent prick (HEP) units and to establish reference preparations for clinical use.
