Overview
Betusphere is a recombinant protein vaccine candidate and immunomodulator developed by Artgen (formerly Human Stem Cells Institute). It is based on the proprietary Betusphere platform, which utilizes plant-derived betulin—a pentacyclic triterpenoid extracted from birch bark—to form spherical nanoparticle adjuvant particles. Recombinant protein antigens are adsorbed onto these betulin-based particles to create a stable vaccine complex designed to enhance and modulate immune responses. While the platform is employed in several of Artgen's infectious disease vaccine candidates (such as Betuvax-CoV-2 for COVID-19), this specific pipeline entry is being developed as a standalone immunomodulator. It is currently in preclinical development in Russia.
