Overview

Bevacizumab + atezolizumab is a combination therapy used primarily for the treatment of unresectable or metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), especially in patients who have not received prior systemic therapy. Atezolizumab is an immunotherapy drug classified as a checkpoint inhibitor and monoclonal antibody; it works by binding to PD-L1 proteins on tumor cells, preventing them from suppressing the immune response, thereby enabling T cells to attack cancer cells. Bevacizumab is a targeted monoclonal antibody that acts as an angiogenesis inhibitor by binding to vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), blocking the formation of new blood vessels necessary for tumor growth and survival. The combination leverages these complementary mechanisms—immune activation and inhibition of tumor blood supply—to achieve greater efficacy than either agent alone[1][2][3][6].
