Overview

This combination therapy consists of bevacizumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), combined with bicalutamide, a small molecule antiandrogen, and goserelin, a peptide-based luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) agonist. The regimen was investigated in a Phase II clinical trial for patients with high-risk localized prostate cancer receiving intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). The rationale for this combination is to enhance the efficacy of standard long-term androgen suppression (LTAS) by adding anti-angiogenic therapy to inhibit tumor growth and progression mediated by VEGF signaling.
