Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination therapy consisting of bevacizumab (a monoclonal antibody targeting VEGF), carboplatin (a platinum-based chemotherapy), paclitaxel (a taxane chemotherapy), and nitroglycerin (a vasodilator). This combination was studied in a randomized phase II trial for patients with stage IV non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The addition of nitroglycerin patches to the standard carboplatin-paclitaxel-bevacizumab regimen was hypothesized to improve outcomes by increasing tumor blood flow and oxygenation through inhibition of hypoxia-inducible-factor (HIF)-1.
