Bevacizumab + irinotecan is a combination therapy used primarily in oncology. Bevacizumab is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody that targets and neutralizes vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), thereby inhibiting angiogenesis and reducing tumor vascularization. Irinotecan is a small molecule chemotherapeutic agent classified as an antineoplastic; it inhibits topoisomerase I, leading to DNA damage and cell death in rapidly dividing cancer cells. This combination has been studied and used for the treatment of advanced colorectal cancer (often with other agents such as fluorouracil and leucovorin) and recurrent malignant glioma. The addition of bevacizumab to irinotecan-based regimens can improve response rates but may increase certain toxicities such as diarrhea, leukopenia, hemorrhage, thromboembolic complications, and gastrointestinal side effects[1][3][4][8].
