Overview

Bevacizumab + yttrium-90 is a combination therapy used primarily in the treatment of unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and other liver-dominant malignancies. Bevacizumab is a monoclonal antibody that inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), thereby blocking angiogenesis, while yttrium-90 is a beta-emitting radioisotope delivered via transarterial radioembolization (TARE) or selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT). The combination leverages the antiangiogenic effects of bevacizumab with the localized cytotoxic effects of targeted internal radiation from yttrium-90 microspheres. This approach aims to enhance tumor control by both disrupting tumor blood supply and delivering high-dose radiation directly to hepatic tumors, with ongoing clinical trials evaluating safety, efficacy, and synergistic antitumor activity[1][2][3][6].
