Overview

Bevacizumab is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody that selectively binds to and neutralizes the biologic activity of vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), a key mediator of angiogenesis. By inhibiting VEGF-A, bevacizumab prevents the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) that supply nutrients and oxygen to tumors, thereby inhibiting tumor growth and metastasis. It is primarily used in combination with other chemotherapeutic agents for the treatment of various cancers, including metastatic colorectal cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, glioblastoma, renal cell carcinoma, cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer, peritoneal cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma (in combination with atezolizumab), among others. Bevacizumab was developed by Genentech/Roche and was the first antiangiogenic agent approved for clinical use[3][4][5][6][7].
