Drug intelligence / Profile preview
bevacizumab-equi (brand name: Equidacent, development code: FKB238) is a biosimilar of bevacizumab, a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody targeting vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A). Developed by Centus Biotherapeutics (a joint venture between AstraZeneca and Fujifilm Kyowa Kirin Biologics), it inhibits tumor angiogenesis, growth, and metastasis by blocking the interaction of VEGF-A with its receptors. Equidacent was approved in the European Union in September 2020 for various oncology indications, including metastatic colorectal cancer, metastatic breast cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, renal cell cancer, epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer, and cervical cancer. However, the marketing authorization was withdrawn in the EU in September 2021 at the request of the holder for commercial reasons. In clinical trials, such as the BOLD trial sponsored by ARCAGY-GINECO, FKB238 is evaluated in combination with olaparib and durvalumab for relapsed advanced epithelial ovarian cancer.
