Bevacizumab-IRDye800CW is an immunoconjugate and fluorescent tracer composed of the recombinant humanized anti–vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) monoclonal antibody, bevacizumab, covalently linked to the near-infrared fluorescent dye IRDye 800CW. This agent binds specifically to VEGF-A, a protein overexpressed in many tumors and associated with angiogenesis. The conjugate enables targeted molecular fluorescence-guided surgery (MFGS) by allowing intraoperative visualization of tumor tissue expressing VEGF-A using specialized imaging systems. Bevacizumab acts as a VEGF-A inhibitor, blocking angiogenesis and tumor growth; when labeled with IRDye 800CW, it provides real-time optical guidance for tumor detection and margin assessment during surgery. It has been studied primarily for its safety and feasibility in various solid tumors including meningioma, breast cancer, esophageal carcinoma, lung nodules/cancer, Barrett esophagus, Klatskin tumor (cholangiocarcinoma), soft tissue sarcoma, pancreatic cancer, thyroid cancer as well as age-related macular degeneration[1][3][4][5][7][8].
