Bevemipretide is a novel investigational peptide drug developed as a next-generation mitochondrial-targeted therapy. It is a modified tripeptide designed to stabilize the cardiolipin-rich inner mitochondrial membrane, thereby restoring neuronal mitochondrial structure and function in diseases involving mitochondrial dysfunction. Bevemipretide exerts antioxidant, neuroprotective, and mitochondria-protective effects by binding reversibly to cardiolipin, improving mitochondrial function, enhancing ATP production, and reducing the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The drug has been granted FDA orphan drug status for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and is being investigated for other neurodegenerative conditions such as dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD), frontotemporal dementia, and Parkinson's disease[1][2][3][5][7].
