Bevonescein is a synthetic, peptide-dye conjugate composed of a proprietary peptide linked to a fluorescent dye. It is administered intravenously and binds to nerve-associated connective tissue, enabling intraoperative fluorescence detection and localization of nerve tissue during surgery. Its primary use is as an imaging agent (contrast agent) for visualizing nerves in procedures such as parotidectomy, thyroidectomy, or neck dissection. Bevonescein was initially developed by the University of California San Diego and further advanced by Alume Biosciences. The drug is currently in late-stage clinical development for use as an intraoperative nerve imaging agent[1][4][5][7].
