Bevonium

Bevonium is a synthetic antimuscarinic (anticholinergic) small molecule drug with antispasmodic and bronchodilating properties. It acts as a parasympatholytic agent by blocking muscarinic acetylcholine receptors, leading to relaxation of smooth muscle in the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts. Bevonium has been used primarily for functional gastrointestinal disorders such as peptic ulcer disease and spastic conditions of the GI tract, as well as bronchial asthma and other conditions involving smooth muscle spasm. The compound is most commonly administered as its methyl sulfate salt (bevonium methyl sulfate). Its use has been discontinued.
