Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Bexagliflozin + metformin** is a combination of two oral antihyperglycemic agents used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Bexagliflozin is a highly specific sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that acts in the kidney to decrease renal glucose reabsorption and increase urinary glucose excretion, thereby lowering blood glucose levels independently of insulin sensitivity[4][3]. Metformin is a biguanide that primarily decreases hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. The combination aims to provide additive or synergistic glycemic control as both drugs target hyperglycemia through different mechanisms.
