Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bezafibrate + placebo refers to the combination of bezafibrate, a lipid-lowering agent in the fibrate class, and an inert placebo. This combination is used exclusively in clinical trial settings as a control or comparator arm to assess the efficacy and safety of bezafibrate versus no active treatment. Bezafibrate acts as a pan-peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) agonist, lowering cholesterol and triglycerides by increasing lipoprotein lipase activity, reducing LDL/VLDL levels, raising HDL cholesterol, decreasing plasma fibrinogen levels, inhibiting platelet aggregation, and improving glucose tolerance[1][5][7]. The placebo component is pharmacologically inactive and serves as a control for blinding purposes in randomized controlled trials[6][8].
