Overview
Bezlotoxumab is a fully human monoclonal IgG1/kappa antibody developed to reduce the recurrence of *Clostridium difficile* infection (CDI) in adults who are receiving antibacterial drug treatment for CDI and are at high risk for recurrence. It is not an antibiotic and does not treat active CDI, but rather works by binding specifically to toxin B produced by *C. difficile*, neutralizing its effects and preventing the toxin from attaching to colonic mucosal cells. Bezlotoxumab does not bind or neutralize *C. difficile* toxin A. The drug is administered as a single intravenous infusion and should be used alongside standard-of-care antibiotics for CDI. It is developed and manufactured by Merck.
