BFPET is a fluorine-18 labeled radiopharmaceutical agent developed for use in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging, specifically as a myocardial perfusion agent. It is designed to assess cardiovascular blood flow and myocardial perfusion, particularly in patients with suspected chronic coronary artery disease. The mechanism of action involves the emission of positrons from the fluorine-18 radionuclide; these positrons annihilate with electrons in the body, producing gamma rays that are detected by PET scanners. This enables high-resolution visualization and quantification of blood flow and tissue viability within the heart. BFPET aims to provide improved diagnostic accuracy over traditional SPECT agents such as thallium or technetium-based compounds, potentially establishing a new standard for non-invasive cardiac imaging[6][8]. The drug has been developed by FluoroPharma.
