Overview

BG-104 is a multi-pathway therapeutic candidate designed for the treatment of obesity and sarcopenic obesity. It functions as a trispecific agonist for the Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor, Gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP) receptor, and human Growth Hormone (hGH) receptor, while simultaneously targeting the Activin Type II Receptor (ActRII). This integrated approach aims to achieve robust fat mass reduction while selectively preserving skeletal muscle mass, addressing a significant limitation of current incretin-based weight loss therapies. Preclinical data in aged diet-induced obese mice demonstrated that BG-104 produces weight loss comparable to tirzepatide, but with superior lean mass preservation; notably, approximately 99.5% of total weight loss was attributable to fat mass reduction. The drug is being developed by researchers in Incheon, South Korea, likely associated with ProGen.
