BG505 MD39.3 gp151 CD4KO mRNA is an experimental HIV vaccine candidate based on messenger RNA (mRNA) technology. It is designed to present the spike protein found on the surface of HIV that facilitates entry into human cells. This vaccine encodes for stabilized HIV envelope trimers that aim to elicit autologous neutralizing antibodies. The vaccine works by delivering genetic material that instructs the body to make a protein fragment of HIV, which the immune system recognizes and remembers, allowing it to mount a substantial response if later exposed to the virus. The vaccine cannot cause HIV infection.
