Overview
BGA005 is a peptide nucleic acid (PNA)-based anti-gene oligonucleotide (Ag-PNA) being developed by Biogenera SpA for the treatment of cancer. It is designed to inhibit the expression of the SURVIVIN gene (also known as BIRC5), an anti-apoptosis protein that is highly expressed in most human cancers but not in normal adult tissues. Unlike traditional antisense technologies that target mRNA, BGA005 utilizes an anti-gene mechanism where the PNA molecule binds directly to the target DNA sequence to block transcription. This drug is developed using Biogenera's proprietary MyGenera™ platform and is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
