**BGC20-0166** was a BTG-developed, proprietary oral combination of **fluoxetine** and **ondansetron** investigated for obstructive sleep apnea. Fluoxetine inhibits serotonin reuptake through the serotonin transporter, while ondansetron antagonizes the 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 3. The serotonergic combination was intended to improve sleep-related breathing by supporting upper-airway dilator-muscle tone and respiratory drive across non-rapid-eye-movement and rapid-eye-movement sleep. BTG reported statistically significant apnea-hypopnea-index reductions with the high-dose combination in a proof-of-concept study, and subsequently worked with Collegium Pharmaceutical on a proprietary formulation for a planned US IND program.
