Overview
BGC20-1531 is a novel, potent, and selective antagonist of the prostanoid EP4 receptor (also known as PTGER4). It was developed as a potential treatment for migraine headache. The drug acts by competitively inhibiting the EP4 receptor, which mediates prostaglandin E2 (PGE2)-induced cerebral vasodilation—a process implicated in migraine pathophysiology. Preclinical studies demonstrated high affinity and selectivity for human EP4 receptors with minimal activity at other related receptors. Clinical development included trials to assess its efficacy in preventing PGE2-induced headaches and its interaction with common rescue medications like ibuprofen[1][2][5][7].
