Overview

BGM2618 is a potent and selective macrocyclic peptide inhibitor of myostatin (GDF8), a member of the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) superfamily that acts as a key negative regulator of skeletal muscle mass. Developed by BrightGene BioMedical, BGM2618 is designed to preserve lean body mass during pharmacologically induced weight loss, such as that triggered by GLP-1/GIP dual agonists. In preclinical studies, BGM2618 demonstrated high inhibitory potency against mature GDF8 (IC50 0.87 nM) with significant selectivity over GDF11 and no binding to activin. In diet-induced obese mice, combination treatment with BGM2618 and the GLP-1/GIP agonist BGM0504 significantly preserved lean body mass compared to monotherapy. Pharmacokinetic assessments in rats have shown a favorable profile with an extended terminal half-life of approximately 23.9 hours, supporting its potential as an adjunct strategy in pharmacological weight management.
