BGN-112 is a preclinical first-in-class **Graphene Quantum Dots nanoparticle** therapeutic being developed by **BioGraphene** for neurodegenerative and inflammatory diseases including Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, Niemann-Pick disease Type C, ALS, glomerulonephritis, and colitis. The candidate is described as a proprietary biocompatible, amphiphilic graphene quantum dot formulation composed of small 2 to 5 nm particles with a graphitic domain and oxygen-containing edge groups. Its proposed mechanism is disruption or inhibition of pathological aggregation processes, particularly **alpha-synuclein** aggregation in Parkinson's disease, other pathological protein aggregates such as **amyloid-beta** in Alzheimer's disease, and abnormal **cholesterol** accumulation in Niemann-Pick disease Type C; BioGraphene has also reported blood-brain barrier permeability in vitro and in vivo and therapeutic activity across multiple disease models.
