BGP-13486 is a small molecule hydroxylamine derivative that acts as a heat shock protein (HSP) co-inducer, specifically targeting the inducible 70 kDa heat shock protein (HSP70/HSP72). Developed by Biorex Research and Development, it is designed to enhance the cellular stress response by lowering the threshold for HSP expression during physiological stress. This mechanism is intended to counteract protein misfolding and cellular dysfunction associated with metabolic diseases, such as insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes, as well as neurodegenerative conditions. By increasing HSP70 levels, BGP-13486 aims to improve insulin signaling and protect against proteotoxic stress. While it shares structural and functional similarities with the more widely studied BGP-15, BGP-13486 has primarily been investigated in preclinical models of metabolic syndrome and muscle wasting.
