BGP-15 is a small molecule drug developed as an insulin sensitizer and cellular protectant. It acts through multiple mechanisms, including inhibition of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP), stimulation of heat shock protein 70 (HSP70), inhibition of Jun kinase (JNK) mitogen-activated protein kinase, and reduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. BGP-15 has shown efficacy in improving insulin sensitivity in animal models and humans with insulin resistance, as well as protective effects in conditions such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy, diastolic dysfunction, tachycardia, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, chemotherapy-induced damage, reperfusion injury, and mitochondrial-stress-related diseases. The drug also exhibits chemoprotective properties during cytostatic therapies and photoprotective effects[1][5][4]. Its precise mechanism is multifactorial but centers on modulation of stress response pathways and cellular protection.
