BGP-1900 is a small molecule heat shock protein (HSP) co-inducer, specifically designed to enhance the expression of Heat shock 70 kDa protein (HSP70). Developed by N-Gene Research Laboratories, the compound functions by lowering the threshold for the activation of Heat Shock Factor 1 (HSF1), the master transcriptional regulator of the heat shock response. This mechanism facilitates the production of molecular chaperones that assist in proper protein folding and prevent the accumulation of toxic misfolded protein aggregates, which are central to the pathology of neurodegenerative diseases such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Parkinson's disease. Beyond neurodegeneration, BGP-1900 has been investigated for its potential to improve insulin sensitivity in metabolic disorders by mitigating cellular stress and stabilizing insulin receptor signaling.
