Overview

Bhumyamalaki, botanically known as *Phyllanthus niruri* or *Phyllanthus amarus*, is a tropical herb widely utilized in Ayurvedic medicine for its potent hepatoprotective and antiviral properties. It is most notably recognized for its ability to treat liver disorders, including chronic Hepatitis B, by inhibiting the viral DNA polymerase and preventing viral replication. Additionally, the herb is frequently referred to as stonebreaker due to its lithontriptic activity, which helps in the dissolution and passage of renal calculi (kidney stones) by interfering with the crystallization and aggregation of calcium oxalate. Its pharmacological profile is attributed to bioactive lignans such as phyllanthin and hypophyllanthin, which exhibit significant antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.
