BI-10

BI-10 is a designation used for several distinct experimental therapeutic agents. Most recently, it identifies a broad-spectrum antimicrobial benzimidazole derivative that targets bacterial membranes, demonstrating potent activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) by inducing membrane depolarization and permeability. Historically, BI-10 also refers to a synthetic decapeptide derived from human follicular fluid that acts as a specific inhibitor of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) binding to its receptor, effectively reducing FSH-stimulated cAMP accumulation and estradiol synthesis. Additionally, the name is associated with a phenol-derived bis(indolyl)methane evaluated for synergistic antifungal activity with fluconazole against Candida albicans.
