BI 113608 + voriconazole is a combination of two small molecule drugs, one experimental and one approved, investigated primarily for potential pharmacokinetic drug-drug interactions. BI 113608 is an oral small molecule originally developed by Boehringer Ingelheim for respiratory and infectious disease indications, notably studied in chronic bronchitis and COPD, with mechanism and target undisclosed in public sources. Voriconazole is a triazole antifungal agent approved for the treatment of serious fungal infections and acts primarily by inhibiting fungal ergosterol synthesis through inhibition of the enzyme cytochrome P450 14α-demethylase (CYP51A1). The combination has been tested in a completed Phase 1 clinical trial to assess effects on the bioavailability, safety, and tolerability of BI 113608 when co-administered with steady-state voriconazole (as well as with ketoconazole). The primary aim of the study was not for therapeutic efficacy but for understanding drug-drug interactions in healthy male volunteers, sponsored and conducted by Boehringer Ingelheim[1][3][5].
