Overview

**BI-1147560** is a potent, selective small molecule inhibitor of beta-site amyloid precursor protein cleaving enzyme 1 (**BACE1**), developed by Boehringer Ingelheim in collaboration with Vitae Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of **Alzheimer's disease**. It lowers amyloid beta levels in the brain comparably to its predecessor BI-1181181 in preclinical studies, demonstrating safety and tolerability in IND-enabling studies. The program advanced to planned Phase 1 clinical trials by end of 2015, though development appears to have been discontinued following termination of the collaboration.
