Overview

BI 1356 + digoxin is a combination of linagliptin (BI 1356), a highly potent and selective dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, with digoxin, a cardiac glycoside. Linagliptin works by inhibiting DPP-4, leading to increased levels of incretins (GLP-1 and GIP), which stimulate insulin secretion and reduce glucagon levels, improving glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus[1][3]. Digoxin increases cardiac contractility by inhibiting sodium-potassium ATPase at cardiac myocytes, used in the treatment of heart failure and certain arrhythmias. While linagliptin is developed primarily for diabetes, there is no evidence that BI 1356 + digoxin is an approved fixed-dose combination or branded product; this listing describes a co-administration rather than a unique formulation or combination product.
