The drug acts by inhibiting TRPC4 and TRPC5 ion channels, which are implicated in neuronal signaling pathways relevant to mood regulation and emotional processing. Clinical trials have shown that while the primary efficacy endpoints were not met in some studies (e.g., borderline personality disorder), BI 1358894 was generally well tolerated with a safety profile comparable to placebo[1][6].
