Overview

BI 14332 is an oral small molecule inhibitor of dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP4), also known as CD26 antigen. It was developed by Boehringer Ingelheim for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. As a DPP4 inhibitor, it works by blocking the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase 4, which increases levels of incretin hormones and thereby enhances insulin secretion and lowers blood glucose levels. The drug belongs to the classes of antihyperglycaemics, piperidines, pyridines, and xanthines. Development was discontinued after phase I clinical trials[1][2][3][4].
