BI 1820237 + liraglutide

BI 1820237 + liraglutide is a combination of two investigational anti-obesity agents. BI 1820237 is a novel long-acting synthetic peptide agonist of the neuropeptide Y receptor type 2 (NPY2R), developed to reduce energy intake and delay gastric emptying. Liraglutide is a well-established glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist approved for obesity and type 2 diabetes. The combination was evaluated in phase I clinical trials in overweight or obese adults to assess safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and effects on gastric emptying. Results showed additive effects on gastric emptying with no unexpected safety concerns; adverse events were mainly gastrointestinal and increased with higher doses. Development of BI 1820237 was discontinued by Boehringer Ingelheim in October 2024[1][3][5][6][9].
