BI-1915 is a potent and selective small molecule inhibitor of cathepsin S (CTSS), a lysosomal cysteine protease. Developed by Boehringer Ingelheim and distributed via the opnMe portal, BI-1915 is utilized as a high-quality pharmacological tool to investigate the role of CTSS in immune modulation and inflammatory pathologies. Cathepsin S plays a critical role in the degradation of the invariant chain (Ii) within the endolysosomal compartment, a key step in MHC class II-mediated antigen presentation. Research indicates that BI-1915 can mitigate endothelial barrier dysfunction and pro-inflammatory cytokine release in models of MRSA-induced acute lung injury, suggesting potential therapeutic relevance in treating vascular leakage and excessive inflammation in conditions like acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
