Overview
BI 207127 + peginterferon alfa + ribavirin is a combination therapy developed for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. BI 207127 (also known as deleobuvir) is a potent, oral, non-nucleoside inhibitor of the hepatitis C virus NS5B RNA polymerase that binds reversibly and noncovalently to thumb-pocket 1 of the polymerase, inhibiting viral replication[1][4]. Peginterferon alfa is a pegylated form of interferon alfa, a cytokine that exerts immunomodulatory and antiviral effects. Ribavirin is a nucleoside analogue with broad-spectrum antiviral activity. The combination demonstrated rapid and strong antiviral activity, especially in HCV genotype 1 infections, with a favorable safety and tolerability profile compared to peginterferon alfa and ribavirin alone[1]. Primary indication is the treatment of chronic hepatitis C.
