Overview

**BI 44370** is an investigational small molecule drug developed as an oral antagonist of the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor, intended for the acute treatment of migraine attacks. It was designed to provide rapid pain relief without the cardiovascular side effects associated with triptans, a commonly used class of migraine medications[2][4][5]. Clinical studies demonstrated dose-dependent efficacy in achieving pain freedom two hours after administration, with higher doses showing significant benefit over placebo and a low frequency of adverse events[2][7]. Despite promising phase II results, development was discontinued and it is not marketed for any indication[4][9].
