Overview

BI-44847 is an orally active small molecule drug that functions as a sodium/glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. It was developed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. The drug works by inhibiting SGLT2 in the kidney, thereby reducing glucose reabsorption and promoting urinary glucose excretion to lower blood sugar levels. Originally developed by Ajinomoto and later pursued by Boehringer Ingelheim, BI-44847 reached phase II clinical trials but its development has since been discontinued[1][2][3].
